NEPAL SCHOOL FREIWILLIGENARBEIT
@ Projects Abroad
As part of a volounteering program I worked for three weeks at a construction site in Kathmandu Valley in Nepal for an extension of a school with an additional multifunctional building that can be used as a library or classroom. The rectangular building is a free standing, open room with four windows, two doors and a gabled roof. Works included masonry, concrete, wireframing with basic methods like bamboo scaffolding or water pipe and cord weight leveling. On a strip of concrete foundation four brickwalls are raised. Concrete ring anchors at the level of the threshold and lintel of the windows and doors bind them together. The corrugated iron roof sits on six integrated metal pillars with metal trusses. The floor is concrete on a broken brick layer. The walls will be later covered with plaster and painted. While staying at a local Nepali family I got the chance of getting to know culture, food and way of life.
